Sialic Acid Analysis

Blue Stream offers an excellent method for Sialic Acid Analysis / Quantification. This method utilizes acid hydrolysis to release the carbohydrates of interest, followed by derivitization, and subsequent chromatographic separation with fluorescence detection.

Through this Sialic Acid Analysis / Quantification method we can determine three forms of Sialic acid; glycolyl, n-acetyl, and dehydro - sialic acid.

The Sialic Acid Quantification is complimentary to analysis by Isoelectric Focusing gels (IEF). Separation by IEF is charge distribution dependent, and, thus, strongly influenced by sialylation. IEF may be used in many instances as both a characterization assay and for Lot Release testing to determine consistency in sialylation of a particular lot of product.

Blue Stream has also modified and optimized the Sialic Acid Analysis / Quantification method for analysis of manufacturing and/or process samples. Please call for more information.
